National Estaurine Research Reserve

Local Advisory Committees

As required by law, each Reserve component has a Local Advisory Committee (LAC). This advisory group, made up of local citizens, serves to advise the Reserve staff, providing feedback and recommendations on site management, research, and education activities at the components, as well as review management plan policies and implementation strategies. Committee members are expected to discuss relevant issues with the local community.

Committee composition consists of representatives from the following public sectors as appropriate based on the needs at each Reserve component: citizen, adjacent landowner, local government, state government, research, education, volunteer, commercial business that operates on the component, traditional user, law enforcement, and nonprofit organization. Members are appointed by the Secretary of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The LACs meet on an annual basis at the request of the Reserve. For more information about the LACs, please read the LAC Operating Procedures document or contact the Reserve Site Managers.

Currently, the Reserve is seeking new LAC members. More information can be found out about this process here.
